Patrick Messerschmitt, MD

Patrick Messerschmitt, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of complex disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow at Wellington Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine. He sees patients at the practice’s Cincinnati offices in Anderson and Eastgate.

Dr. Messerschmitt graduated with an Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society distinction from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He then pursued a general surgery internship as well as a research fellowship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Upon conclusion of his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Messerschmitt pursued fellowship training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at Brown University-Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr Messerschmitt then successfully obtained the Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand.

Dr. Messerschmitt has received multiple research awards, authored several journal articles and book chapters, and presented projects at national and international meetings. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, where he has also served on three national committees.

Dr Messerschmitt’s clinical expertise includes:

  • Management of trauma and complex fractures of the hand, wrist, and elbow
  • Compressive neuropathies, such as carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes
  • Sports injuries of the upper extremity
  • Peripheral nerve and tendon injuries
  • Arthritis of the hand and wrist
  • Arthroscopy of the wrist
  • Tendonitis of the hand and wrist
  • Ganglion cysts

When Dr Messerschmitt is not caring for patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, traveling, running, skiing, spinning, and reading.
